“It’s Mother’s Day! Let’s Celebrate Mom!”
Cindy Lange-Kubick is an editor for the Lincoln, Nebraska Journal Star. In 1999 she wrote an article titled “For All the Mothers Who…” wherein she listed several insightful comments. She attempted to recognize some of the “unrecognized” tasks that sometimes get over-looked on Mothers’ Day. Here are a few examples:
“This is for all the mothers who mess up. Who yell at their kids in the grocery store and swat them in despair and stomp their feet like a tired 2 year old who wants ice cream before dinner.”
“This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse.”
“This is for all the mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation. And mature mothers learning to let go.”
“This is for all the mothers who taught their daughters to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.”
“This is for all the mothers who taught their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot.”
Some are obviously humorous but consider these…
“This is for all the mothers of Kosovo who fled in the night and can’t find their children.”
“This is for all the mothers who put pinwheels and teddy bears on their children’s graves.”
Thanks are in order for Cindy’s recognition of the moms who have been neglected, so let’s hear it for all the “moms!”
Some of us will be reflecting in yet another way because our mothers have died. Thus, Mother’s Day may be a bit sad for us; memories are all we have. For most of us, however, there are good memories and for that we can be especially grateful. Let us rejoice and remember the “good old days” with mom!
The opportunity that you have to show love and respect for your mother is important, so don’t let the day pass by without rising to the occasion. Love your mom and do something special for her!
There is a certain “mystery” that accompanies motherhood and I feel confident that I will never enter into those secrets. The love and emotions of a mother are beyond anything that we men can comprehend or understand. I don’t know about you, but I marvel at a mother’s love. The Lord did a special thing when He made mothers!
One “pollster” made the following comment about moms and I believe this to be a fair reflection of reality:
“….having children intensifies the spiritual commitment of men, but even so most fathers still do not measure up to the spiritual footprint of their parenting counterparts…”
In Psalm 113:9 the Lord did say:
“He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.”
Mothers, it is your day! Make the most of it. Let people love you and recognize you and give to you. And then take the opportunity to share the “love of Christ” and the good news of the gospel with your children.
Don’t let them lose sight of their spiritual ties! Bring your children and your family “face to face” with the necessities of belief!
The great Apostle Paul readily recognized the power of influence when he wrote to young Timothy, (see II Tim 2:5) “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also….”
Respect and remember!
